Her niece with the hot temper? There are a few solid suspects in this short story, and I had fun trying to guess who it was that wanted Mrs Pengelley dead and what their reasoning for it was. I like Agatha Christie's short stories.
She writes in such a concise manner, that the stories never waffle on and are a very satisfying read. This was another great story featuring Hercule Poirot and his affable sidekick, Captain Hastings. She is annoyed as she cannot find the key to her flat on the fourth floor of her apartment block in her handbag. She worries about the elder of her two young sons, Ronald, who is eight. She describes what Mrs Carrington was wearing at the time. The local doctor rules that the cause of death was gastritis but Poirot knows better. Poirot thinks he has solved the case.

Poirot and Hastings are approached by Mrs. She is sure her husband is poisoning her and wants to avoid a scandal with police. She asks Poirot to investigate. He takes the case, but before he has a chance to do much, Mrs. P is found dead. They return to London, believing that the gossip of the accusations will force an investigation. This belief holds and Poirot attends the inquest as well as figures out who killed Mrs.
P; Poirot rather tricks him into giving a confession. He was stringing Mrs. P along, making her suspicious of her husband through putting arsenic in her food only when her husband was available.
P went to Poirot however, Radnor realized the jig was up and gave her a lethal dose. He also had the niece, their heir, so if Mrs. P died and her husband was imprisoned, the niece and thereby himself would get everything.
